In the beginning of all things,
wisdom and knowledge were with the animals;
for Tirawa, the One Above, did not speak directly
to human beings. He sent certain animals to tell humans that he showed
himself through the beasts, and that from them,
and from the stars and the sun and the moon,
humans should learn. Tirawa spoke to humans through his works.
~ Chief Letakots-Lesa, Pawnee Tribe, c. 1904
Keith was raised on a small sheep farm on Vancouver Island, Canada. This intimacy with animals ignited a sense of wonder in the mystery and the miracle of the Natural World. To deepen this sense of wonder, Keith studied animal science at university—where he received a B.Sc. in Animal Science and a Ph.D. in Animal Genetics. After a tenure as a Professor of Animal Genetics, Keith left the academic world to engage more directly with the animals and plants who share this planet.
Keith interweaves original photography, film, prose, poetry, science, Nature sounds, and song to awaken a sense of wonder wherein Nature’s creatures can become mentors who provide guidance on how we may walk in beauty on this earth. He has presented his work at conferences in Canada, the US, and Europe—including at the 2018 International Association for the Study of Dreams Annual Conference (Scottsdale), the 2019 Eurotas Conference (Paris), the 2019 Science & NonDuality Conference (Italy), the 2019 Science and NonDuality Conference (San Jose), and the 2021 International Association for the Study of Dreams Annual Conference (Keynote Address).
